MKV (Matroska) is a container format, not a video format, it can contain various different video bitstreams. So performance will depend on whether the internal bitstream is supported in HW on the Pi4. And those formats would be H264 or H265(HEVC). So if your Matroska files use H264 or h265 internally then you will be fine.
