That's a very long time in terms of junction temperature, the correct way to compensate for brightness change is using an optical splitter and measuring the output.The LED would only be on for 1-2 minutes at a time.
The specs for the LED state it is for CW and Pulse operation, both are binary modes however on page 8 of the datasheet it has got a graph of (typical?) power outputs at different currents for different case temperatures which gives you an idea of how much temperature comes into play. Note that the swing in junction temperature is greater than case temperature.
