Hi all and sorry for late reply, i was away for a business trip.
First of all, the reply to the question I was asked: my "bad monitor" has a max resolution of 5120x1440.
My TV is capable of 4k resolution.
I found no help reading the documentation section, it is too much synthetic and technical for me.
So i spent some time in a trial and error process, here is what i got:
(Bookworm in X11 mode because i need xrdp+pulseaudio to use the RPi via RDP when i am away from home):
-The wallpaper image is stretched on all the screen, but it is cut at the bottom. I get the missing part back by commenting out the line: dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d.
-Regardless of the dtoverlay line being commented or not, i am not able to set the screen resolution (GUI drop down list has only 1920x1080 option) on both monitor and TV
-I found a firmware update for my monitor, i applied it but nothing changed. The firmware update is dated 2022, though (i bought the monitor second-hand at the end of 2021).
(About xrdp, i found that Remote Desktop behaves as on Windows Server, the remote screen is not blacking out the monitor if connected. And despite i have Pulseaudio installed and enabled i don't get the audio forwarded to my Windows PC; Pulseaudio control panel doesn't show the network "sink". It is not a RDP thing because i get audio from other Windows PCs; but this is another topic i mention it here only for completeness)
I also tried to flash Ubuntu on the SD card (with Imager installed on my WIndows PC, so I followed the mainstream process), but it didn't even boot (i waited what i thought was a reasonable amount of time, but maybe it was still too little for Ubuntu first time boot?). But this was just for curiosity, i want to stay with Raspberry OS because googling around everybody says it has the best performance of all other systems.
So please take the last 2 points (xrdp and ubuntu) as additional info, my focus now is to be able to get a populated display resolutions list and if possible get Wayland to work on my monitor (where is/are its configuration file(s)?
Can anybody please provide me more help in less "techniquese" words?
Thanks and regards!
Edit: to stay on the safe side, i repeated the above tests also with the 32 bit versions of RPi OS Bullseye and Bookworm, and got the identical behavior.
