General discussion • RPi 5 USB-C overvoltage protection

I'm curious about how over-voltage protection of the RPi 5's usb-c connection works. In https://forums.raspberrypi.com/viewtopi ... 0&start=54 jdb said that
it's there to stop badly-behaving pd power supplies from incorrectly supplying 9/15/20V.
Does that protection also work for smaller overvoltages? E.g. what happens if my psu provides 6V instead of 5(.1)V? Or 5.4V (which according to https://forums.raspberrypi.com/viewtopic.php?t=359581 the RPi should be ok with)?

If I consider powering the RPi via USB-C vs GPIO, would the usb-c's over-voltage protection protect me better against voltage spikes from a damaged/misbehaving/noisy psu?

Thanks for your help!
