Hopefully James [Raspberry Pi Engineer & Forum Moderator] finds one in his office, or sees one during a coffee break.
In lieu of that, I would follow the first link, (handily posted by Jamesh) in the first reply to you and read it.
Grab a working Pi3, then try the apt update method. But your OS may be too old and I would then follow the Updating Firmware Only method.
At that point I would see if it boots in both Pi3s new and old (the new are 2years old now), then use that as you new image onwards.
