I'm planning to set up a pi 5 with a 2TB NVMe drive to act primarily as a media server.
I've read various instructions on how to image the SSD and boot from it, which seem fairly straightforward the first time you do it, So my plan is:
1 just follow the instructions (copy an SD card image onto the SSD and set to boot from the SDD)
2.create a new partition for my media files filling the rest of the SSD, mount it and I'm in business
So after this I would have boot, root, and media partitions
At some point in the future I might need/want to re-image the OS (e.g. there was no upgrade path to bookworm-based RasPi OS) and it would be a real PITA if there was no way to reimage the OS without wiping all my media files.
So my question is: is there an easy(ish) way of reimaging the boot and root partitions on the SSD without touching the media one? Can the rpi imager do this? I presume I could do it with dd and a bit of fiddling?
If this is really tricky or impossible I'll probably opt for a dual NVMe board...
Cheers
