There's been a small increase in memory footprint with each newer software release. While the need for swap depends on what software you run, the Pi Zero 2 is a special case since upgrades don't work without more swap.Is this swap space issue somehow related to Bookworm? I don't remember having freezing issues with Stretch/Buster.
This is because the Zero 2 has four cores and the updates in Bookworm are now multi threaded.
The original Zero should be unaffected.
