Stupid mistake of mine late at night, I got the other end of the cable the wrong way round so used the tester to double check it and it doesn't short out now
unfortunatly the nearest one is 2 hours away from me, and its not something they taught in school and still don't teach as I work there, Unfortunatly for a lot of things I'm the geeky kid next door as I help my friends build their computers just this is very different to what I have worked on before and I'm having to do it late at night so probably not helping, but I can now give this more of my time

after fixing the tiredness issue, the board doesn't shutdown any more and is running the code on loop, not all the keys trigger the numbers to change on screen but if I push and hold a few at a time some of them change to 1's only issue on the 8 section view is sometimes the numbers switch round e.g.when I put it into the 72 data view none of the number change which probable means I have changed the wrong thing
