Ok some progress.
After seeing the eth0 kernel error confirming what I was sort of seeing. I unplugged and used wifi only and had no issues updating. Unfortunately after rebooting and trying Ethernet again it crashed again.
I then took the pi5 and plugged it directly into my router downstairs and was able to proceed with the Nextcloud install.
I omitted to say I have been using powerline adaptors, with a hub in my office where I also have a pihole (disabled while testing) and a couple other PC's. Ive been using the powerline adaptors for years and never had any problems, they are quite old, only 100mbps I think, could these be the problem with a pi5?
