To me this is the most frustrating thing about the Pico's build environment. You seem to require a Priest on hand when you expand upon your projects. Granted I've only been using C/C++ for a quarter of a century, so I am still beginner to intermediate level.
But, in my mind, you should be able to pull an example from the example projects folder and have it compile without any fuss. This seems to be a flaw in the SDK/build environment that Raspberry Pi provides, when compared to other vendors like Arduino, Atmel, Micro:Bit, etc... With those, you add the required include and lib files like any other environment, hit compile and go. I would have thought that Raspberry Pi should have been running rings around the competitors by now on that front, having far superior hardware. But the SDK just isn't there yet.
