General • Re: Pico W pull-up voltage gone

I kicked the can and will keep on going with the damaged Pico W that those here, and I agree, was zapped by an electrical surge of some kind, but only on three inputs, GPIO 16, 17, and 26. (physical pins 21,22 and 31) and all three were connected to Visonic motion sensors. Three door magnet operated sensor circuits did not fail.

I unwired those inputs and wired the three motion sensors to GPIO 20, 21, and 27. I lost faith in the robustness of the internal pull-up resistors, so I re-did the code to simple input for those terminals, without internal pull-up. Instead, I used external pull-up of 10k ohms each.

I kept the 3 inputs that monitored magnet switches without any change as they never failed with using their internal pull-up method.

I loaded the new program and checked all inputs and the IOT remote reporting and all checks out.

I will see what the next few lightning storms can do to wreck me again. If they do, I’ll fall back to opto isolation. Shielded cable would be best but no can do inside existing walls.

Thanks.
