Troubleshooting • Re: Raspberry Pi 4 getting unreasonably hot

The canakit power supplies are ok except for the ones with the early inline switch.

The early Pi4's get quite a bit hotter than the later ones, the processor and pmic were different.
Was the original SoC the BCM2711B0? Mine has it, but I hear some Pis have the C0 instead I think
I suspect it's to do with all round airflow; I found similar with the 5. Raising it up a bit so that more air can circulate seemed to reduce its temperature.
I'll see if I can find some stand offs or something to mount my Pi on, thanks!
I'm pretty sure the raspberry pi 4 has the B0 version, but the pi 400 and compute module 4 have the C0 version. The C0 version has better thermal performance than the B0 at higher clock speeds, which is why the pi 4 has a clock speed of 1.5 GHz and that pi 400 has a clock speed of 1.8 GHz. Other than that, they are pretty much the same. I have a pi 400, and it is about 40-50C while under normal use. The pi 400 also has a large heatsink, which helps keep it cooler.
