X11 and Wayland use different approaches for using OpenGL for rendering, and they seem to have different results.
V3D should be able to render to a buffer up to 8192 wide.

X11 renders the entire desktop to one megabuffer, and then tells each display which bit to display via a source rectangle. It somehow manages to use OpenGL to produce widths/heights greater than 4095, with the complete desktop able to be up to 8192x8192.

Wayland uses separate buffers for each display. For some reason I have seen it have issues on displays over 4096 wide, but don't know the reason. It's not a use case we normally test as I don't believe we have any in the office.
