Is the monitor really that wide?
Pi4 is limited to 4k (4096 across), so I suspect that width is breaking things. Ideally it should have just rejected it.

Adding "video=HDMI-A-2:1920x1080@60D" to cmdline.txt (on existing line) may force the mode
(although I'm not sure if wayland will have store the 5120x1440 away to a config file after the "successful" boot).
