Many thanks for the advice I received here. The camera is working, and I probably wouldn't have been able to do it without your help.
I'd hoped to document my working configuration and post it here, but I'm still wrestling alligators to get things going. I think I should document it--otherwise I'll fall into the same tarpit again someday--and if I produce anything usable, I'll post it on this forum.
