You probably want to configure the CM5 as a serial USB gadget... I have a regular RPi5 and I just use the USB C connector to power the board and run a serial port. I used this guide:

I connect to a USB 3.0 port which allows for 900mA.
Another alternative is to enable a serial port on GPIO pins 14/15... this would require a separate UART to USB adapter for the Windows PC.
