Am I missing something, or are the packages corrupted or something to do with permission etc?
I don't know if you're missing something but we are. What model Pi are you using, what OS and named release of it are you running? What python modules are you importing or trying to use when you see the error?
Right now, all we can do is guess. If I were to do that, my guess would be that you're trying to use RPi.gpio on a Pi5, Pi 500, or CM5. That won't work as there was a major change to the hardware that breaks RPi.gpio. Try a forum search for the fix - you're not the first person with that error.
Of course, the above is a guess so may or may not be correct.
