General discussion • Re: Pi 5 most popular boot options for home office

I know of offices where everything is on the Web which means the boot needs only to load the Web browser. I am thinking about where people actually run applications on the Pi. I tested a Pi 4 as a daily desktop and booted from USB 3 SSD but everything was still too slow, including using a "big" Web browser. (Firefox with Noscript)

The extra speed of the Pi 5 helps make some things practical. The extra graphics silicon helps some applications work. On a Pi booted from NVMe, LibreOffice works for small documents. Have not tested big documents or calc or anything else.

Testing a Web server next. Have one application with no database and one with SQLite and one with MariaDB. The db Web application will run on one desktop and share with several other workers in the same office across the LAN. Typical small office stuff. The db should work on the NVMe as it has DRAM and is working at PCIe 3.
