assuming the latest "bookworm" PI-os
since the latest uses wayland, and not x11 for display compositor, they switched to Wayvnc.
this does not put anything in the taskbar.
but vnc still works. wayvnc is not as full featured as realvnc... no file transfer.
if you want to get the old "realvnc" server back you have to switch back to x11 using raspi-config.

then turn VNC back on, and realvnc (with taskbar icon) will appear.
(vnc server is turned off when you switch)
