I used the cable from Ugreen, which is known for its quality. I also have a second cable. cables are fine as i see boot diagnostics.
Here's the breakdown of my costs:

$109 CAD for the 8GB Raspberry Pi
$26 for two SD cards
$25 for the recommended power supply for the Pi
$26 for two micro HDMI cables

OK, I have a much better idea of where you're coming from and of which currency we're talking about. Though I do think you're misguided in hanging it all on the total buy in cost of a Pi 5. Here's why:
  • An SD card or other boot media has always been an additional purchase. RPL also have no control over SD card pricing. The switch from full size to micro SD happend in 2014 with the launch of the 1B+ so is not a new requirement.
  • Same for an HDMI cable. Though admittedly you're much more likely to have a full size one hanging around than you are a microHDMI one.
Again though, the switch to microHDMI is not new with the Pi 5. It happenned in 2019 with the launch of the 4B. And, also again, RPL have little to no control of the price of cables (only on the price of official cables bought from official resellers if even then).
It could also be argued that HDMI cables (micro or otherwise) are optional given the preinstalled and reasonably easy methods to enable ssh and vnc.
  • Regarding the 27W PSU, as several of us have said, it's optional unless you're going to be running everything flat out. I don't know if 25$CA is a fair price as I don't know what the import duties are and whether than includes sales tax/VAT.
If you're going to compare with earlier models be aware the the change from microUSB to USB C also happend in 2019 with the launch of the 4B.
