I am back at my home now (different province from the condo) and had some time on my hands so I downloaded the pre-compile universal binary of Speedtest for Mac from here:
https://install.speedtest.net/app/cli/o ... versal.tgz
And ran it on a M2 MacBook Air:
It reports version 1.2.0.84. The results are well within range of those returned by the web page:
DOWNLOAD Mbps 442.20
UPLOAD Mbps 405.74
It turns out I have 2.1.3 installed on a Pi4 running Buster. It returns results that are wildly different from 1.2.0.84 installed on the Mac:
As I said, an intractable problem
