In what way did you arrive at the conclusion "could not see IP was assigned to the ethernet port"? What did you do to make you think that?
Did you do anything else on the Raspberry Pi than assign IP address?
What is it that you are trying to acheive, because there are many different use-cases for communicating between pi and a PLC?
