General discussion • Re: New Raspberry Pi Products

One thing nobody else seems to have mentioned is the possibility of a Raspberry Pi USB 3 hub product. This was first suggested several months ago when two USB PIDs was added to the Raspberry Pi PID repo on github with descriptions like "Raspberry Pi USB3HUB ( USB3 hub part)" . I'm thinking that perhaps such a chip could be included as part of a CM5 IO board, then later released as part of a separate USB 3 hub product. I think that would be a worthwhile product for Raspberry Pi to produce: similar to the official power supply which has been available for many years, it would take some of the guesswork out of getting USB peripherals up and running reliably. While there are good USB hubs available, there are also plenty of rubbish ones, and ones which fail to comply with the relevant USB standards in various ways. It would be good for users and Raspberry Pi to have an official "known good" product that was officially supported by Raspberry Pi. It could also be cheaper than some of the good USB 3 hubs that are out there.
