Hello, I am new to the Pi ecosystem but am loving the Pi 5 as a retro gaming console. for the first couple of weeks it ran fine but for the last couple of days whenever I turn it on I get the white and red screen with a message "Waiting for Network". This does nothing because I do not have a network cable installed. If I hit escape it goes to a black screen and then the Pi notices I have an SD card installed and boots off of that. Once booted up it runs perfectly until the next time I turn it on then I get the "waiting for network" again.
Searching online I think I need to modify the boot settings for the Pi to look for the sd card first. The instructions I find online say to hold the spacebar while the Pi 5 is booting up to access these settings. This does nothing, it still goes straight to the white/ red screen with "Waiting for network". I tried several times both a wireless keyboard and a wired one, I have tried holding the space bar the entire time and also repeatedly hitting the key all to the same result.
I am sure there is something simple that I am missing; Does anyone have any idea of what else to try?
