I guess it really is something with the hardware. I have been testing it for a while. Some times it boots up fine, just normal. Other times it just shines the red LED (with and without the sd card attached). The pi doesn't function properly whenever I am confident it would work. I have been using this Pi for a few years and I never had a problem so far.
I hope this helps in some diagnosis:
I am using a 32gb sd card
I have never updated the eeprom(not that I know of)
Power supply is fine, I don't think that is the problem
I know it starts to fail when it doesn't show the green light, not even to show error codes. This problem comes up right after booting or a few minutes after it starts functioning normally. I communicate via ssh headless and suddenly the next reboot I have to pray that it boots up properly. And it always fails.
I am using arch Linux Rpi imager GUI to create an image on sd card
Whenever it doesnt work, the whole Pi stays cool, it doesnt get hot. The only signs with which I can identify the power is reaching the Pi is that the red LED lights up and the gpio 5v pin shows 5v with the ground
I don't have any spare sd card to try if its the sd card issue, but since it works sometimes with the sd card, I think that's not the problem
Hope it helps
